Crucial has quietly released details about its latest addition to the SSD lineup. The BX500 will be an entry-level SATA SSD, which should be available starting from 31 August.

There are three capacities for the BX500, including 120 GB, 240 GB and 480 GB. All models have the same sequential read/write performance at 540 MB/s and 500 MB/s respectively. Currently, they are only in standard 2.5-inch form factor, no M.2.

However, the BX500 SSDs seem to have relatively low endurance ratings. The MTBF is at a reasonable 1.5 million hours. The 120 GB model is rated for 40 TBW, 240 GB at 80 TBW and 480 GB at 120 TBW. These ratings translate to about writing 21 GB, 43 GB and 65 GB of data per day for 5 years to the SSDs. For comparison, the older BX300 SSDs have ratings of 55 TBW, 80 TBW and 160 TBW for the same capacities. We know that the BX500 is using 3D NAND technology, but cannot confirm the type of flash memory (TLC or QLC).

Despite the lower endurance ratings, the BX500 SSDs still offer decent enough performance increase over traditional hard drives. In addition, average consumers will not write a large amount of data to the SSDs every day. The BX500 is also priced very competitively. The 120 GB model costs $29.99 USD, 240 GB at $49.99 USD and 480 GB at $79.99 USD (MSRP).
