Since manufacturers started to remove the 3.5 mm headphone jack on their smartphones, truly wireless headphones are becoming a trend in the past few years. More audio companies are making new wireless headphones, as the global market grows larger and larger.

According to Counterpoint Research, over 12.8 million units of wireless headphones were sold in the 4th quarter of 2018. North America was the largest market, which took up to 24% of the global sales.

Apple held about 60% of the market share, which was way ahead any other brands. Jabra was the second largest brand and accounted for about 10% of the total. Mid-tier companies, like JLabs and QCY, were having a pretty strong performance as well.

Apple’s AirPods was the best-selling wireless headphones in the quarter, followed by the Jabra Elite Active 65t and Samsung Gear IconX. With the total sales at 12.8 million, this means AirPods had sold over 7.68 million units in a single quarter. The expectation of the newer AirPods 2 in 2019 may also hinder the sales of the AirPods.
