Yesterday (April 16), Razer has announced the refreshed Core X Chroma external graphics enclosure over the original Core X in 2018. The new eGPU will have additional connectivity, as well as added support for Razer Chroma RGB.

The Core X Chroma will be using the same Thunderbolt 3 (40 Gbps) interface to connect the GPU to compatible laptops/computers. The box is now equipped with up to a 700-watt power supply, capable of supplying 500 W to the graphics card and 100 W to the Thunderbolt 3 cable. Depending on which operating systems you are on, both modern AMD and NVIDIA GPUs are supported, such as the latest RTX 20-series and Radeon VII. Physically, the enclosure can accept cards no wider than 3 slots and use a PCIe 3.0 x16 interface.

Compare to the Core X, the Core X Chroma has four more USB 3.1 Type-A ports and a Gigabit Ethernet port at the back. You can leave your peripherals and network cable plugged in to the eGPU, while taking the laptop away for work/study. There is also dual zone Chroma RGB lighting, which can be controlled via Razer Synapse 3 software.

The new Core X Chroma is priced at $399.99 USD (MSRP) and available for purchase from Razer’s website and retailers.
